Kenya’s year-on-year inflation fell to 3.83 per cent in September, from 5.0 per cent a month earlier due to lower food prices, the statistics office said on Monday.
On a monthly basis, inflation was -0.11per cent from -0.90 per cent in August, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics said.
“In August 2019, the food and non-alcohol drink’s index decreased by 1.89 per cent following a decline of 1.04 per cent that was recorded in July 2019,” the bureau said.
According to the bureau, lower food cost was attributed mainly to favourable weather conditions.
In August, the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ index fell by 0.10 per cent as a result of lower prices of some cooking fuels.
“The transport index also decreased by 0.03 per cent on account of a reduction in the pump prices of diesel and petrol,” the statistics body said.
