The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Oladele Daji, on Wednesday urged beneficiaries of the newly inaugurated apartment blocks in Lagos to exercise utmost care in the use of the facilities.
The FOC said this at the inauguration of four blocks of 32 three-bedroom flats and two blocks of 32 two-bedroom flats for Lieutenants and Senior rates, respectively.
The naval apartments were located at the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) WEY, Navy Town Ojo, Lagos State.
“Although the NN is still faced with the challenges of accommodation deficiencies, the addition of the ones commissioned will go a long way to ameliorate the challenge.
“I therefore enjoin beneficiaries to exercise utmost care in the use of the facilities and maintain them properly.
Daji said that there would be inspection and guidelines for the use of all accommodation in the command, saying all guidelines would be enforced.
The FOC also thanked the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, for his consistency and outstanding effort in meeting the basic needs of personnel.
“I deem it most appropriate and within the ambit of decency to extol the consistency and outstanding effort of the Chief of Naval Staff toward meeting the basic needs of personnel.
“I am at a vantage position to make this assessment, given the series of landmark projects that were commissioned in this command during the 63rd Anniversary celebration of the NN in June all geared toward improving NN capacity and personnel welfare,” he said.
“It is against this background that I am pleased to be part of the ceremony to commission yet another accommodation facilities at the Lieutenants and Senior Rates quarters to consolidate on the successes achieved so far,” he said.
Daji said that the provision of decent accommodation would have positive impact on the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Nigeria Navy.
