Yuletide: DPR warns marketers against sharp practices

The Abeokuta Field Office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has warned petroleum marketers in Ogun against engaging in sharp practices before, during and after the Yuletide.

The Operations Controller, Mrs Muinat Bello-Zagi, gave the warning on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta.

Bello-Zagi said that DPR officials would go round the state on monitoring and surveillance exercise with a view to sanctioning any marketer found culpable.

She said that necessary measures had been put in place to ensure that petrol was available in all parts of the state.

Bello-Zagi advised motorists to shun panic buying and storing of products in or around residential areas to avoid disasters.

“Petroleum products are available in our depots around the country. You (marketers) should not engage in diversion, under-dispensing, hoarding, adulteration and unsafe acts in petroleum retail outlets.

“Any marketer or operator caught engaging in sharp practices will be sanctioned accordingly.

“Abeokuta field office has increased surveillance and developed technology to effectively monitor oil and gas facilities within the state,” she said.

She urged members of the public to promptly report any marketer found violating the regulations of the department.

In their separate responses, the marketers thanked the DPR for engaging and collaborating with them from time to time, promising to adhere to all rules and regulations.
