Harness potential of water transportation in Badagry, Monarch urges LASG

The King of Ajido Kingdom in Badagry area of Lagos State, Aholu Saheed Adamson, has urged the state government to harness the potential of Badagry Waterway transportation.

Adamson gave the advice at the 2019 Annual Ajido Zangbeto Festival organised by the state government on Monday in Ajido, Badagry.

According to the monarch, this will help in reducing the stress on the road, thereby making life more comfortable for people to live.

He said that the Lagos-Badagry Expressway had become a death trap until recently when the Lagos and Federal Governments started massive repair of the road.

The monarch also urged the LASG to fulfill its promise of building a modern jetty in Badagry to ease the movement of residents through the waterway.

On the Zangbeto Festival, he said it was a rich inheritance which was being celebrated in high esteem with avowed commitment from people of Ajido Kingdom.

The monarch said that people of Ajodo always celebrate the festival religiously in colorful procession for the enjoyment of all and sundry.

“The 2018 festival was an opener to buttressing the dream of Lagos State which did not end in ordinary local celebration, but went globally in providing that indeed the state has the potential.

“We said it and defended it, not just by words alone, but of course in action, just as it is evident for all to see,” he said.

Adamson commended the West Africa Gas Pipelines Company Ltd., Global Communications Ltd., Intercontinental Distillers and Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Co. Ltd. for supporting the festival.

In his address, Mr Adeyinka Amosu, the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the festival, said Zangbeto institution in Ogu land was an instrument of administration that worked well in the olden days.

According to Amosu, Zangbeto institution was used to control crimes so that peace, love and affection were fostered.

He commended the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state Ministry of Arts and Culture and Badagry Local Government area for identifying with them in bringing back this lofty and useful institution.

“Zangbeto has brought back not only glorification, but also for economic empowerment, sociocultural upliftment, crimes control and above all, re-enacting our social being as people with a unique identity and a focussed destination,” he said.
