The Chief Executive Officer, BOMARAH Group of Companies, Hajia Bola Muse, has urged the Federal Government to make tariff stable to enable clearing agents remain in freight forwarding business.
Muse, who is also the President, Women in Maritime Africa (WIMAfrica) Nigeria Chapter, made the plea during the 25th anniversary of BOMARAH Group of Companies (a clearing and forwarding firm), in Lagos on Tuesday.
According to her, there have been inconsistencies in the tariff rates, and this needs to be reconsidered.
“The Nigeria Customs Service has been increasing tariff rate from time to time without informing freight forwarding practitioners which has been affecting their businesses,” she said.
Muse also urged the government to upgrade facilities at the ports.
”Presently, scanners are not working and there is constant gridlock as a result of bad roads in the ports area.
“Lack of standard ports access road has led to accumulation of demurrage, but as an organisation, we tried to manage the challenges and this made us to remain in the business,” she said.
The chief executive officer, who is also the financial secretary of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), advised the youth to develop passion for anything they were doing which could assist them to excel in life.
Also speaking, one of the Directors of BOMARAH Group of Companies, Miss Zainab Muse, said it was very inspiring to see the company which was established when she was a year old growing from strength to strength.
She said that most of the oldest staff of BOMARAH usually picked her up from school when she was young, while appreciating their dedication and commitment toward the success of the company.
“My mum started the business from her house and now we have over 50 staff operating from North, East and West.
“My mum Hajia Bola Muse is my mentor and my best friend. I always learn from her and follow her advice.
“She was my first teacher, she taught me how to use the computer and freight forwarding profession,” Zainab said.
She advised youths who aspired to be entrepreneurs to analyse the economy and be in tune with trends by analysing data always.
The National Secretary of ANLCA, Alhaji Azeez Babatunde, commended the efforts of Hajia Muse, saying she was the first female executive of the association, which was established in 1954.
Babatunde advised the staff to continue putting in their best and prayed that God would continue to grant them success in their endeavors.
A pioneer staff of BOMARAH Group, Mr Reuben Kankin, thanked the chief executive officer for appreciating his dedication to the company.
