Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Health, has called for stepping up of surveillance at all the nation’s borders to contain spread of Coronavirus.
Finnih made the call while featuring on a Radio Programme: “Lagos Talks” on Saturday in Lagos.
According to him, total closure of our border is not the best option.
“What is expected is that we should continue to step up surveillance at all our borders; the land borders has been partially closed for a while and that also will help.
“Everybody is looking toward China, but the virus got to Nigeria through an Italian, there was nothing to flag when he came in.
“We can’t quarantine everybody, and we should not forget that Nigeria is now part of the 55 countries around the Globe with cases of the virus.
“The outbreak already has negative impact on the world economy; so, there are many repercussion when we close all our borders,” Finnih said.
She, however, urged Nigerians to maintain good hygiene, most especially handwashing during and after this period of Coronavirus outbreak.
The special assistant urged the public to get information from the various social handles on the updates regarding the COVID-19 situation in the state.
“The Lagos State Government, Ministry of Information and the National Centre for Disease Control, all have social media handles where the public can get information regarding the issue,” she said.
