Dangote Group Company to launch N4trn fertiliser project in Nigeria soon

Dangote Group of Companies has embarked on fertiliser project of N4 trillion with production of two million metric tonnes to increase farmers yield in the country.

The company’s General Manager (GM), Dangote Fertiliser, Sales and Marketing, Dr Iheanyi Orji, disclosed this to newsmen at the ongoing 31st Enugu International Trade Fair on Thursday.

During his presentation of the company fertiliser, Orji said that the country’s population was on the rise, adding that there was need for large production of fertiliser to put food on people’s table.

“There is an urgent need for fertiliser production in Nigeria to help increase farm produce.

“If this cannot be done adequately that means there will be shortage of food in the country.

“The fertiliser plant has the capacity of producing two million metric tonnes annually,’’ he said.

The general manager said that with the fertiliser plant’s capacity, the farmers would not lack fertiliser for their farming.

Orji said that once the company launched its indigenous fertiliser in few months time, Dangote group would be the major fertiliser producer in Africa.

He said that the fertiliser would be of different grades and positioned to bridge the gap between the local demand and national capacity.

“The fertiliser project possesses unique features like having the largest granulated Urea fertiliser complex under development in the global fertiliser industry.

“It covers some 500 hectares of land of the fertiliser complex, and gas is the main raw material.

“It will guarantee substantial saving of foreign exchange in Africa as a matter of fact and create surplus Urea for farmers to enhance production of food grains and vegetable.’’
