The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that it was yet to receive requests from its embassies across the world, regarding Nigerians who wish to be evacuated back to the country, in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Godfrey Onyeama made this known at Presidential Task Force briefing on Tuesday, in response to a question on government’s plans to evacuate Nigerians in the diaspora over covid-19 fears.
“As at now, we don’t have any request from any of our embassy indicating that significant number of Nigerians want to return back to the country,” he said.
He also said that the country was monitoring developments across the world, so as to come up with best local approach to adopt in curbing the spread of covid-19.
“Some countries started suffering from covid-19 before us, so it’s an opportunity for us to learn from best practices across the world,” he added.
On his part, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said that preventive measures, such as social distancing has been adopted by many nations across the world and had proven effective.
But he added that the fight against covid-19 is not for government alone but for all citizens.
