A cluster of oil companies operating in Delta State on Thursday donated a Nisan Pick-Up Van, face masks and food items to the state government to cushion the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
The team lead by Mr Williams Eboh, Health Community Liaison Manager, Midwestern Oil, presented the vehicle and face masks to Dr Austin Obidi, Chairman, Delta State Medical Related Donations for COVID-19 Response and his team at the Central Hospital, Asaba.
Eboh said that the gesture was in response to the Governor’s call for support by organisations and well spirited individuals for the fight against the disease.
He said that the cluster comprises eight oil firms operating in the state namely: Midwestern, Sun Trust, Newcross, Platform, Energia, Oando, Chorus and Pilla oil limited companies.
He added that the oils companies at various fora had donated food items to their host communities to cushion the impact of the pandemic.
According to Eboh, the companies donated 270 bags of 50kg rice, 135 cartons of groundnut oil, 270 cargos of noodles and 180 cartons of tin tomatoes deposited at the state food bank, Ibusa.
“We are here to donate these items to the state government to support the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
“The state government has done well by his timely response and as a corporate organisation, we see it as a war and collectively we can win the fight.
“Besides this donation, we also assisted our host communities and the Local Governments to cushion the effects of the pandemic in the various communities,” he said.
Receiving the items, Obidi thanked the donors for the gesture while calling on other corporate organisations and citizens to support the state in this fight.
According to him, the state government has done quite well and now is time for corporate organisations and individuals to support this fight.
He recalled that the state government had on Wednesday inaugurated a testing centre for Coronavirus, adding that with the development all test would be within the state.
He, therefore, appealed to well spirited groups and individuals to donate personal protective equipment to the medical team who remained the frontliners in the fight against the pandemic.
