Senate queries aviation ministry over N174m payment to contractor

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts on Thursday queried the Federal Ministry of Aviation over payment of N174m to a contractor for direct procurement of navigational aids and maintenance without budgetary allocation in 2015.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Mathew Uroghide, made the observation during an investigative hearing of the panel.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the ministry’s failure to comply with the Appropriation Act.

Uroghide also accused the ministry for allowing 23 store items worth about N837,000 to waste and rust without making use of them.

He said the payment was for the direct procurement of navigation aids/spare parts and maintenance services rendered to the ministry.
