ART Canvasses Transparency In Airport Concession By FG

The Federal Government has been told to show transparency, follow the due process and rule of law in its bid to concession some airports in the country.

Dr. Gabriel Olowo, President, Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ART), in a chat said that without transparency, the government may not achieve industrial peace and harmony.

ART, however, said that it would support the government in its plan to concession some of the airports in the country once it could prove strict adherence to the rule of law.

The Ministry of Aviation had slated Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano Airports for concessioning.

ART explained that challenges facing the airports in the country could only be resolved through concession.

”We do not need to remind industry stakeholders of the challenges facing our airports in management and funding which could be best ameliorated by a well packaged concession programme.

”Desirable as the steps are, the Aviation Round Table is cautiously optimistic that the process will be transparently done, due process and the rule of law would be observed by the government in addressing the interests of all stakeholders in the industry to ensure industrial peace and harmony.”
