The Lagos State government has set up a committee to select people who will participate in the 774,000 jobs scheme initiated by the Federal Government.
Speaking at inauguration ceremony on Thursday in Lagos, Alhaji Mutiu Are, the chairman of the committee, said that the scheme would provide jobs for thousands of youths in the state, reduce unemployment and level of crime and criminality by taking many youths off the streets.
He said that members of the committee would ensure that there was equity in the distribution of the slots to each local government and interest groups in the state.
The chairman of the committee stated the fund for the scheme would be judiciously spent, adding that participants would be made to earn their pay.
Are posited that the members of the committee would ensure that people outside the committee would unduly influence the work of the committee.
