SON certifies Techno Oil’s cooking gas cylinders

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has certified the Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders being produced by Techno Oil Limited in Lagos.

Techno Oil had in June last year inaugurated a plant with the capacity to produce five million cylinders for LPG, also known as cooking gas, annually.

The SON presented its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme certificate to the company on Monday, saying its LPG steel cylinders were adjudged to conform to Nigerian Industrial Standards 69 and 220 at the end of a rigorous exercise.

The Group Head LPG and State Coordinator, Lagos State Office I, SON, Mrs Nwaoma Olujie, said the certificate would be valid for three years during which the certified products would be monitored for consistent compliance with the relevant standards.

“This award is given to companies that have distinguished themselves in their various manufacturing and production categories,” she said at the presentation of the certificate.

According to her, MANCAP is a mandatory product certification scheme put in place by SON to ensure that all locally manufactured products in the country conform to the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards before such products are presented for sale in the market or exported.

“It is important to note that LPG cylinders are classified as life-endangering products and compliance to standards is mandatory,” Olujie said.

The Executive Vice-Chairman of Techno Oil Limited, Mrs Nkechi Obi, noted that the journey started in 2015 when the company announced its decision to establish a state-of-the-art LPG cylinder manufacturing plant.

She said, “Motivated by our strong passion for quality and total compliance with regulatory procedures, Techno Oil had sought the guidance of SON on equipment and machinery specification that would guarantee the production of quality LPG cylinders capable of competing anywhere in the world.

“This strategic collaboration with SON became stronger year on year until date and the outcome is the reason why we are gathered here today to witness the presentation of TechnoGas LPG Cylinders MANCAP certificate.”

Obi said upon the commencement of full manufacturing activities in June 2019, when the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo inaugurated the plant, the company and SON had worked closely in the areas of in-process production procedure, quality checks and laboratory analysis.

“As a company, Techno Oil will continue to uphold practices that would engender the production of quality product, while making compliance to every established regulatory standards and procedures our anchor,” she added.
