Fire guts petrol tanker, stationary trucks in Lagos

A petrol tanker has been gutted by fire in the Lacasera area of Mile 2, Lagos State.

The tanker driver was said to be conveying the petrol to a destination in the state when he lost control of the vehicle.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the truck overturned, resulting into a spillage that led to an explosion.

A spokesperson for the state fire service, Jamiu Dosunmu, said no death was recorded in the incident.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said some stationary trailers were also affected by the fire, which started around 1am on Thursday.

He said, “A combined team comprising Lagos fire service, police, federal fire service and the agency responders extinguished the flames.”

In another development, a yet-to-be-identified driver lost his life on Thursday in an accident in the Owode-Elede area, along Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

The driver was said to be driving recklessly when tragedy struck around 5.45am.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the driver’s body had been handed over to his family.
