Dr. Bamidele Mustapha, the Medical Director of Epe General Hospital, has appealed to prominent sons and daughters of the community as well as corporate organisations to assist in providing sources of steady power supply within the hospital premises.
Mustapha made the plea in Epe on Tuesday.
He said that the community had been experiencing blackout for the past few years now, and that the development had continued to hinder service delivery to patients in the hospital.
“The management spends nothing less than N450,000 monthly in buying diesel which is not encouraging, ” he said.
He added that the hospital authorities had spent millions of naira to buy generators over the years adding that hospital does not have the financial capability again to buy a new generator.
“The generator we are using currently is in bad condition and we have been advised not to repair it. Rather, we we were advised to buy a new generator, ” he said.
According to him, buying a new generator is not advisable, the best option is to install a massive solar for generating power to the hospital.
“Generator will be a supporting mechanism, not the dependable power supply due to the high cost of maintenance and the ridiculous cost of buying diesel.
“Solar power will be the best option to rescue the hospital from poor power supply experienced periodically and it will safe the authorities from excess spending on diesel, ” he said.
The medical director appealed to prominent sons and daughters of Epe community, public office holders, corporate organisations and individuals to donate solar power to the hospital.
“We need the alternative power supply to effectively discharge our healthcare service delivery and to safe the lives of our patients,” he said.
Mustapha commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for his unflinching support in improving facilities at Lagos General Hospitals across the state.
“We have been experiencing a substantial transformation in the health sector under the leadership of Gov. Sanwo-Olu.
“We pray to God to continue to strengthen him and lead him right in all his endeavours.
“As we all know, government cannot do it alone. It requires public-private partnership (PPP); hence, the hospital management is calling on well-meaning individuals for support in this area of need, ” he said.
