Lagos govt promises to complete Ikorodu road projects

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure the delivery of ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction work of Ijede-Ewu Elepe, Oba Sekunmade and other roads in Ikorodu as promised.

According to a statement on Saturday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, stated this while inspecting some road projects in Ikorodu alongside members of the state House of Assembly ahead of the approaching rainy season.

The Special Adviser noted that construction work on the road was “advancing at a commendable speed because of the commitment of the state government to ease the traffic challenges along that corridor and make the road available for both commuters and pedestrians plying it.”

Adeyoye also assured residents that the scope and specifications for the projects remained unaltered, especially Oba Sekunmade road, “which is a strategic link to Ebute Jetty and the Ipakodo Lighter Terminal, promoting multi-modal transportation and a major boost to the national economy.”

The governor’s aide reiterated the determination of the Sanwo-Olu administration to ensure prompt completion of the road before commencement of rains.

Encouraging the contractors to give their best to ensure speedy completion of the projects, Adeyoye also enjoined residents to “show more understanding and bear with the government on the temporary inconveniences being experienced” as a result of the road project.

Adeyoye added that, on completion, the projects would improve road connectivity, facilitate better traffic flow, reduce travel time and greatly improve the health of the residents, as well as enhance the value of property in the area.

The Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Sinai Agunbiade, representing Ikorodu Constituency I, reportedly emphasised the importance of the road, describing it as the only alternative road linking Ikorodu town to Lagos-Ikorodu Road, connecting about 20 communities in Ikorodu Division.

Agunbiade, who spoke during the inspection tour of the projects, expressed satisfaction at the pace and quality of the job, saying, “I am really impressed at the progress of work done and the quality of supervision and monitoring by the team from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.”

Aro of Ipakodo, Chief Julius Shonubi, who expressed delight over the progress, commended Sanwo-Olu for the “unwavering commitment to the delivery of his electoral promise.” He added that effective supervision by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure contributed in no small measure to the progress recorded on the projects.

Also, Baale of Ogolonto, Chief Yekini Fatola, implored the contractors to deliver on the drainage outfall sections before the rains, to prevent a repeat of previous seasonal flash floods experienced by communities along the road.

Other major ongoing road rehabilitation projects inspected were the Igbgogbo Bola Ahmed Tinubu-Igbe Road and the Owutu Agric Isawo Road in Ikorodu.
