Democracy Day: Do more in tolerating critics, PDP tells Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State on Saturday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to improve more in tolerating critics of his administration to deepen democracy.

The Lagos PDP Chairman, Adedeji Doherty, in his Democracy Day congratulatory message advised President Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government to protect the democracy a lot of noble Nigerians suffered and died for.

Doherty said: “President Muhammadu Buhari has to be more tolerant to critics, allow the freedom of speech and be more sympathetic to the insecurity and kidnapping in the country.

“The President should focus on the continuous slide in the exchange rate, create employment opportunities for the youths, create an enabling environment for the private sector to prosper and fairly distribute the top appointments in the nation.”

Doherty, who applauded all those that fought to end military rule, urged the older generation of Nigerians to always think more of the future generations.

He urged all Nigerians to look at the brighter side of Democracy Day and see it as a day of unity, when all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation , came together as one for one just cause and ultimately for the love of the nation.

The PDP boss, who further urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law abiding, appealed to religious leaders to intensify prayers for the country.

“I am calling on all religious leaders and all Nigerians especially our mothers who are naturally more patriotic and sympathetic to the yearnings and economic pulse of the Nation, to set aside the last Friday of every month to pray for the Unity of our Dear  country Nigeria.

“We must pray most importantly for a brighter future for our youths as this is the only Avenue to restore peace in our Nation,” he added.

The PDP chieftain felicitated with Nigerians and youths as the nation marked 2021 Democracy Day and wished them a happy Democracy Day.
