LG chief preaches love, unity as Kayokayo Festival begins in Lagos

Chairman, Epe Local Government, Ms Surah Animashaun, has urged residents of Epe community in Lagos State to live in peace and harmony for the progress of the ancient town.

Animashaun said this at a news conference to herald the 2021 Kayokayo Festival, which started on Wednesday in Olu Epe Palace.

According to the custodians of the festival, Kayokayo means, “Branch and be fed”. It is all about food, eat and prayers. The festival is meant to usher in a new Islamic calendar.

Animashaun promised to support all community festivals in Epe for the preservation and promotion of the community’s heritage.

According to her, Epe has enormous tourism, arts and culture potential.

“The current administration will work collectively with the relevant stakeholders to harness, develop and promote the community cultural heritage.

“We will use what we have to get what we want. Our traditions and cultural potential will be well utilised to boost the socioeconomic status of Epe,” she said.

Animashaun urged fun seekers to celebrate the festival with caution by obeying all COVID-19 safety rules as directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
