The Federal Government will revive a 40MW Dadinkowa Power project in Gombe State, Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu has said.
This is coming as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says electricity supply to Kano, Jos and Kaduna may remain dismal as the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria moves to connect a new Lafia Transmission Substation to the national grid.
Aliyu, who took over recently appeared to have adopted the Gombe project as his first, as he disclosed that relevant papers pertaining to the power projects are being studied.
A Deputy Director, Press at the ministry, Austin Asoluka said in a release that an appropriate recommendation for the completion of the project is being made.
The Minister had in chat with Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya considered the feasibility of the project.
Yahaya said it was an opportunity to brief the Minister on the state of the 40MW Dadinkowa Power project and other hydropower projects in Gombe State that needed FG intervention.
TCN’s Ndidi Mba noted that the agency has adopted shedding of load in the states to enable NDPHC complete the substation.
“NDPHC requested a power outage on the Makurdi – Jos portion of TCN’s Ikot Ekpene -Ugwuaji -Makurdi – Jos 330kV transmission line to enable it carry out transposition on the line and to connect the new Lafia substation. Connection works by NDPHC to its new Lafia Substation have advanced and will soon be complete.
“Although the ongoing work by NDPHC interrupted bulk power supply from the Makurdi-Jos 330kV transmission line axis only, Jos is currently receiving electricity through the Kaduna -Jos 330kV transmission line.
“Consequently, there is a slight load constraint in Kaduna, Kano, and Jos axis as the load from Ikot Ekpene – Ugwuaji – Makurdi has been cut off on the Makurdi – Jos axis as a result of the ongoing work,” she said.
Mba noted that power supply through the Lafia – Jos 330kV line is to ensure that Jos gets electricity supply until NDPHC completes the connection of the new Lafia Substation to the grid.
She said the connection work by NDPHC would increase the capacity of the national grid, adding that the bulk power supply would be restored on the Makurdi – Jos line immediately after NDPHC completes the transposition work.
