PDP LGA Congress: Alimosho harmonises, adopts consensus to minimise frictions in Lagos

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Alimosho Local Government Area has adopted a consensus arrangement to produce its LGA party executives, in a bid to minimise fracas.

The main opposition party is conducting its nationwide LGA congresses on Tuesday to produce new set of officials to steering the affairs of the party at the grassroots.

Mr Ebenezer Alabi, the Electoral Officer assigned by the National Working Committee of the PDP to conduct the LGA Congress in Alimosho LG, said the party had always been preaching consensus.

“We have been preaching this for all to be on the same page in setting up structure of the party from wards level to the national level.

“What I witnessed here today is that the leaders are in one accord; they have come together and resolved every issue among themselves and came out with a unity list which is acceptable to all leaders and we are happy for that.

“That is what we are adopting as the results for today’s Congress in Alimosho Local Government, ” Alabi, a former Ondo State PDP Chairman, said.

On the implications of the consensus on the party, the electoral umpire said that it would bring back peace and cohesion into the party.

According to him, members of the party will see themselves as one and work as a team to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Divisions have never helped us in PDP and that is why I am glad that we have seen our problem, we have realised our mistakes and we are now taking steps to correct them.

“I am happy and it is good for our party,” he added.

Alabi, who noted that one could not still rule out possibility of some people still aggrieved, urged all aggrieved to support the majority to move the party forward.

According to him, those who cannot get party executive positions will get elective offices, hence the need for cooperation for PDP to wax stronger in the state.

Speaking to NAN, Otunba Segun Adewale, a former Chairman and senatorial candidate of the party, told NAN that the choice of consensus was to engender peace and move the party forward.

Adewale, who is the leader of the party in the council, said the harmonised list of LGA executives was to end fracas and frictions with the party.

According to him, the party is leaving no stone unturned to end all acrimony and infighting which has cost the party so much in the state.

“We don’t want to go to the field. We have resolved to come together and to work together for us to get better results in future elections,” he said.

Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland, said the harmonised list ratified by the congress electoral officers, was a product of consultations and sacrifices.

Also speaking, Mr Saturday Akioya, the PDP Chairman in Alimosho LGA, told NAN that the party would not want to toe the path of “the winner takes it all”.

“PDP needs to unite to win senatorial, House of Representatives and house of assembly seats in Alimosho. We have fought enough, we must harmonise ourselves so that we will win.

“Let us come together and work together. Aeroland wants to work with all groups. We must put people who are strong to be members of the executives,” Akioya said.

He added that the Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had encouraged the party to harmonise, to avoid members working at cross purposes.
