EKEDC apologises to customers for reduced power supply

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has expressed concern about the persistent low allocation of power supply it has been receiving from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The electricity Distribution Company said this was the reason it had been unable to meet the supply demands of its customers in recent times.

Mr Godwin Idemudia, General Manager, Corporate Communications, EKEDC, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

Idemudia said: “The total current allocation of power supply from the TCN to the various power stations in our network has dropped from 450MW to 156MW.

“For example, the expected supply allocation to the Alagbon Transmission Substation is 100MW but we are currently receiving 67MW, while Ijora Transmission Substation expects an average of 75MW but is currently receiving 13MW.

“This is nowhere near enough to satisfy our customers.”

Idemudia apologised to customers for the inconvenience this might have caused and assured them that the Eko DisCo was working with the TCN to proffer prompt resolution to the issue.

According to him, the DisCo recently signed a project agreement with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd. to improve the quality of supply in the company’s franchise, and to meet the high demand of its network.

Idemudia explained that the company was embarking on more similar projects to ensure customers were adequately provided with reliable and quality power supply.

He, however, appealed to customers to always remain vigilant as some criminal elements might want to use the current situation as an opportunity to vandalise the company’s distribution equipment.
