Mr Seyi Omotowa, Managing Director, Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) on Thursday said that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project would deliver on its mandate to provide job opportunities and facilitate balance economic growth.
He said this during a public sensitisation on the opportunities of the AKK gas project at the ongoing 43rd Kaduna International Trade Fair.
Omotowa represented by Emmanuel Igbokwuwe, General Manager Commercial of the company, said that the era of gas was being supported by President Muhammadu Buhari to offer lots of opportunities to Nigerians.
“The AKK project will offer abundance of opportunities not only for power generation but also for gas based industries.
“It will also provide a robust infrastructure where investors would have a reliable gas to use,” he said.
Earlier, Muhammad Maishanu, the AKK Project Team Lead said that the NGC special day held at the trade fair would avail the company opportunity to show to the public what the project was all about.
He said that the AKK project was designed to aggregate gas supply from the Niger Delta to the north with terminal gas stations in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.
According to him, the gas infrastructure will revitalise more than 250 industries, create over three million jobs for Nigerians and boost national power generation by 3600MW.
He urged the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA), to liase with the NGC to ensure effective utilisation of the gas infrastructure in the state.
In her remarks, Hajiya Hadiza Mailafiya, representative of the KADCCIMA lauded the federal government for passing into law the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
She expressed optmisim that the gas project would boost the economy of the state and the nation at large.
President Muhammadu Buhari on July 1, 2021, inaugurated the 614-kilometre AKK gas pipeline project, to further enhance Nigeria’s energy security.
The AKK gas pipeline project is a section of the Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline (TNGP) with capacity to transport about 2.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
It is expected to be completed within 24 months.
