Multi Choice, NGO donates PPE to three hospitals in Lagos

 

Multi Choice Nigeria in partnership with Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated 1650 Hazmat coverall suits to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

The donations which was in partnership with Multi Choice Nigeria was ably led by the Executive Director, HEI, Mr Paschal Achunine in Lagos on Thursday.

Achunine said that his NGO supports accident victims, indigent patients especially those Nigerians who are unable to pay little bills as low as N20,000 and we watch them die.

“We are also involved in providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) especially when COVID-19 came for health workers.

“That is why we are here today in partnership with Multi Choice Nigeria who saw that we are on ground and we connect with the pin point of health workers.

“We are glad that in our own little ways, we are all joining hands to make a better society.

“Today, we have brought Hazmat coverall suits, they are mostly used for highly infectious cases” he said.

The Executive Director said that before they brought the PPE to the hospitals, they engaged the hospitals to ascertain the needs of the medical consumables and they confirmed it.

He said that the donations would not be the last lapse as they would be reaching out to other 15 other health institutions in Lagos who would need the medical consumables in the course of attending to patients.

He said that the bulk of the PPE would be given to Lagos State ministry of health, about 2,000 pieces.

Achunine said that a total of 5,000 pieces of the PPE would be distributed in Lagos by the end of March.

He said that the distribution was to aid the protection of health workers and enhance the effective management of patients in the hospital.

LASUTH got 1,000 pieces of the Hazmat coverall suits, NIMR 500 and FMC 150 respectively.

Speaking, Multi Choice Nigeria Corporate Social Investment specialist, Ms Akaoma Onyeonoru said that at the start of COVID-19, lives changed.

Onyeonoru said that it was a pandemic that was never experienced before and as an organisation, we decided to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians facing the pandemic.

She said one of the things the organisation did was to get PPE to be distributed to the hospitals, entertainment bodies, media organisations and frontline workers.

She said that between 2020 and 2021, Multi Choice Nigeria has distributed 10,000 PPE across Lagos and Nigeria through their branches across Nigeria.

The specialist said that the partnership with HEI was because of its proven integrity and track records of its work and achievements in Lagos.

She said that HEI was grounded in the distribution of PPE and was well known in Lagos hospitals.

Receiving the PPE, the Chief Medical Director, (CMD) LASUTH, Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo said that the hospital was delighted at the gesture from its benefactors.

Fabamwo said that the hospital had always enjoyed the benefits of getting a lot of donations from HEI overtime.

He encouraged more organisations to do things like this especially for public facilities.

Also, the Director of Administration, FMC, Mr Harrison Etim said that the hospital was always excited when organised private sector comes to partner with the hospital.

Etim said that the donations would go a long way to assist the indigent patients in terms of medical consumables that would be used in their care.
