Dangote emacipating Africa economy – Chiejina 

Dangote Group has over years distinguished itself in the business of rebuilding the economy with passion as its foot print is present in virtually all the African nations.

According to the Group’s Head of Corporate Mr Tony Chejina, this is the first time an African is helping in rebuilding Africa.

Chiejina who stated this at a One Day Media Practice Training for Journalists in Lagos on Wednesday, noted that Nigeria is not only self reliant in cement manufacturing, but also an exporter as well as replicating the Group’s Cement Model in other African countries.

In his own words, “What Dangote is doing is termed economic emancipation. He is busy rebuilding Africa. This is the first time an African is helping in rebuilding Africa. Dangote is a Sovereign Brand.”

He disclosed that with the Dangote Refinery coming on board, many companies in Europe would fold up as Dangote Refinery will bridge that gap.

“You can imagine what would happen if this is replicated in the steel sector, car and industrial equipment would be cheaper, and more jobs would have been created.

Earlier in his presentation, the Managing Partner, Woodhous Consulting  Mr Uche Nworah urged journalists to leverage on opportunities in the Internet to explore digital marketing and other limitless opportunities.

He charged them to generate revenue for themselves and their various organizations through networking.

Nworah who was the immediate past Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Corporation (ABS), said wise journalists must always reach out to their sources and personalities they write about by tagging them anytime they write stories concerning them.

The expert tasked journalists in the print media to engage in marketing communication, using social media tools  to drive revenue for their various organizations if they hope to remain in their jobs.

Nworah stressed, “Journalists must have target and must stive to achieve set Targets. You must be interested in organisation you work for. You must help to drive traffic into your organization’s various social media handles. Journalists must be interested in the long term sustainability of the organisations they work for.

“Improve your skills and make yourself relevant. Always improve your relationship with your company’s stakeholders.”

In his presentation, Mr Lekan  Odufolurin, who was a former Editor of the Punch Newspaper, Saturday editor at the Nation newspapers and Online Editor of the Nation newspapers said social media is real, adding that the impact is huge.

He postulated that most of the organisations giving adverts to the print media are most time doing that on compassionate ground, adding that with the opportunities provided by social media such organisations and individuals can reach their target audience without going through the traditional medai.

” Journalists and serious media houses must embrace social media platforms. It makes you and your media house a global brand. Social media activities has brought me funds from abroad and other opportunities such as foreign trips and other handsome opportunities,” he stated.

Also presenting, Mrs Adesola Ayo – Aderele said journalists must embrace digital learning if they hope to grow and remain relevant in their careers.

Ayo – Aderele who was the former Online editor of the Punch charged journalists to enrich their content , adding that whenever they have any social media posts, they must tag their sources or the persons the posts are targeted.

“Focus on simple topic . Be an expert on your field . Ensure you keep on learning. Each time I do any post, I make sure I respond to any feedbacks to such posts. I always respond to individual feedbacks,” she said.
