National Assembly’s lamentation over insecurity mere 2023 campaign – PANDEF

The Pan Niger Delta Forum has stated that the lamentation of the National Assembly over the spate of killings and insecurity in the country is a mere campaign strategy to endear Nigerians to them towards the 2023 elections.

Speaking with our correspondent in a phone interview, the National Publicity Secretary of PANDEF, Ken Robinson said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had failed Nigerians. He urged the citizens to set aside their ethnic and political sentiments to seek a detribalised Nigerian as President in 2023.

He blamed the National Assembly for contributing to the failure of Nigeria’s security systems by its lack of critical evaluation of the situation. He accused the NA of relinquishing its oversight function.

“We will conclude that what they (Assemblymen) are doing now is political campaign. Years ago, they were a rubberstamp National Assembly. They were saying yes to everything the President wanted, they were not carrying out their oversight functions.

“We have one member of the National Assembly who would cite budget figures that had been approved for the Nigerian military, particularly the army in the last two, three years, 400b plus, 500b plus, what did they do with that money? The welfare of the soldiers in the war front in engaging in the criminals and terrorists is very poor as reports indicate. They are well motivated, and trillions of Naira are been appropriated annually. So the National Assembly share a major part of the blame for the collapse in Nation’s security architecture. What  they are doing now is to impress their constituents as to fact that elections are close, so that when they go back to campaign people will say, this man was speaking against insecurity .They are not sincere. It is medicine after death,” he stressed.
