APC presidential primaries: seven aspirants step down for Tinubu, one for Osinbajo

Seven aspirants have stepped down for Asiwaju Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ongoing presidential primaries in Abuja.

The candidates include former Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemiformer Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, Senator Robert Ajayi  Boroffice from Ondo State and the only female contestants in the race, Uju Ken-Ohanenye.

They withdrew their contest from the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

They announced their withdrawal from the presidential primaries race at the convention arena of the APC at the Eagle Square in Abuja while delivering their remarks on why they want to become the president of Nigeria.

Another candidate Mr. Nicholas Felix stepped down for the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

Other candidates in the race include Tunde Bakare who said I am not here to step down for anyone. I am here to step up as the 16th president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ogbonna Onu, the immediate past Minister of Science and Technology and Innovation. He condemned refusal of the party to zone the presidency to southeast. He noted that the southwest had had eight years as the president and eight years as vice president as well as the North while President Muhammadu Buhari from the North will soon complete another eight years as president. The APC should have zoned the ticket to the SouthEast. Where is the justice, he questioned.

Others in the race include the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chief Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. He reeled out his achievements while he held political offices including that of governor in the Rivers State and as Minister of Transportation. He told delegates not to vote for him if he is not qualified but added that he is eminently qualified to be the next president considering his achievements.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, Tien Jack-Rich, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Ikeobasi Mokelu, Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade, former Minister of State, Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba are still in the race.

The APC presidential flag-bearer will emerge today from the votes of 2322 delegates from across the country. The primaries started yesterday but continuing today as it couldn’t be concluded yesterday.
