Lagos seals 137 buildings over standards violation

The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority has sealed no fewer than 137 properties in different parts of the state due to building irregularities.

A statement by the Authority said the enforcement exercise took place in six district offices of LASPPPA,  which were Alimosho, Mosan Okunola, Egbe- Idimu, Ikotun Igando, Agbado- Oke Odo and Ayobo-Ipaja.

Giving details about areas covered during the exercise, the General Manager of the Authority, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, revealed that 12 properties were sealed within the Alimosho District of LASPPPA while 22 properties were sealed at Mosan Okunola.

“In Egbe-Idimu, 29 properties were affected with another 32 sealed at Ikotun Igando. Also, in Ayobo-Ipaja and Agbado-Oke Odo, 25 properties and 17 properties were sealed with padlocks respectively. Some properties were also sealed with caution tape at the 6 District Offices.”

The general manager explained that the properties that were sealed contravened the State Physical Planning Regulations, adding that the properties were mostly residential buildings which were converted for commercial use without getting the necessary permits and approvals.

Other sealed properties, he said, were industrial, institutional and commercial buildings under construction for failure to obtain a planning permit or approval and for erecting structures that did not conform to physical planning regulations.  Osinaike advised that all property owners and developers in Lagos State should seek the services of professionals in the built sector such as engineers, builders, architects and town planners before embarking on building projects.
