Herder hacks Kwara girl for resisting rape

A 25-year-old cattle rearer, Mohammed Abubakar, has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Ilorin, Kwara State, for allegedly inflicting injuries on a girl, Mohammed Aisha.
He was brought to court on two counts of causing grievous bodily injuries and attempting to commit culpable homicide.
The offences contravened sections 246 and 299 of the Penal Code Law of Kwara State.
According to the police’s first information report, the case was reported at the Lafiagi Police Station by the Medical Director, General Hospital, Lafiagi, Dr S.K. Suleiman.
According to the charge sheet, Suleiman said, “The victim was brought for treatment and she narrated that she went to the bush in search of shea butter with her two sisters, Hassana and Adishetu.
“But they were attacked by the suspect, as the victim sustained deep injury cut on her head.”
The police told the court that “investigation revealed that the suspect demanded to have sex with the victim and her two younger sisters, but they refused and ran for safety.
“But he (suspect) chased them and matcheted the suspect severely on her head in the process.”
The Police Prosecutor, Ayeni Gbenga, said the investigation on the case was yet to be completed and therefore urged the court not to grant the accused person bail.
In her ruling, Magistrate Gbadeyan Kamson ordered the remand of the suspect and adjourned the case till July 10, 2023.
