Troops foil terrorist attacks, kill 3 in Imo, Zamfara

The Nigerian Army has said its troops foiled terrorist attacks in Imo and Zamfara States, killing three terrorists.
The director, Army Public Relations, Brig.- Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, said one other terrorist surrendered to troops with his wife.
He said the troops of 34 Artillery Brigade, operating in 82 Division Nigerian Army Area of Responsibility on August 20, 2023 foiled an attack by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN) on its Forward Operating Base at Ukwuorji, along Owerri-Onitsha expressway.
The separatists attempted the attack on the troops but met their waterloo when they came under the superior firepower of the vigilant troops.
The troops neutralised one of the fighters, arrested two others while others fled.
The troops recovered one vehicle, one mobile phone, one machete, nine empty cases of expended 7.62 mm Special Ammunition and one empty case of expended 12.7mm Ammunition.
The Army spokesperson also said one Boko Haram fighter and his wife surrendered to troops in the North-East following aggressive combat operations by troops of 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison in Gwoza, Borno State.
Items recovered from the terrorist include one AK 47 Rifle and 10 Live rounds of 7.62 mm Special Ammunition.
In another operation on August 21, 2023, he said troops of 1 Brigade Garrison, operating under 8 Division Area of Responsibility ans acting on actionable intelligence ambushed insurgents who were on a mission to attack Bobo Village in Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State.
The Army spokesperson said in a fierce fight with the insurgents, troops eliminated two of the criminals and recovered two AK 47 rifles and four motorcycles.
He, therefore, called on citizens to support in the fight against terrorism and other sundry crimes in the country.
