Sports Minister praises Amusan, Brume on Diamond League Podium victory

The minister of sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has congratulated the duo of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume for their Diamond League podium performance in Eugene, Oregon in USA.
Amusan, fondly called ‘Tobi Express’ by admirers won the 100m Women’s Hurdles with a time of 12.33 to reclaim her title on Sunday night, while Ese Brume leaped 6.85m to claim silver medal in the women long jump. Ivana Vuketa of Serbia won gold medal.
Senator Enoh, in a statement signed by his media aide, Kola Daniel, said the victory was a beautiful way for Amusan to wind down an athletic season that brought joy, tears and goosebumps. He added that her determination and mental strength are worthy of emulation.
“I join millions of Nigerians globally to felicitate with Tobi Amusan on a deserved win at the Diamond League. The victory is one that will restore her confidence after the difficult ordeal she passed through this year. Even though she lost the World Championship title, she won our hearts in Budapest. I am glad that she was able to overcome all of the challenges to defend her crown for the third consecutive time.
“I urge Tobi and other Nigerian athletes to reflect on this season, applaud themselves for their hard work and look towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has utmost commitment to sports and the President will stand by all Nigerian athletes, who are fighting hard to represent the country at the international stage,” he stated.
Amusan emerged champion competing in a strong field that included Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Kendra Harrison and others. She clinched her third consecutive title on the same tracks where she had won last year.
Tobi Amusa becomes the only second woman in the history of the Diamond League to clinch three 100m hurdles titles in a row, equalling the record of Dawn Nelson-Harper.
