Isa resigns as Sokoto Security Panel Chair over alleged link to banditry

Hours after his inauguration as chairman of a 25-member committee for the establishment of Sokoto State Community Guards, aimed at strengthening support for conventional security agencies against the backdrop of insecurity in the State, Colonel Garba Moyi Isa (Rtd) has resigned his appointment.
His resignation, according to LEADERSHIP findings, may not be unconnected to a video footage in circulation, linking the retired senior Army officer to banditry in the Eastern flank of the State.
Moyi, a three-time Commissioner in the State, while addressing journalists at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Sokoto, said he resigned his chairmanship of the Committee on Sokoto Community Guards to save his hard-earned reputation. He said, “Shortly after my appointment, some disgruntled elements in the state went on a campaign of calumny with a view to tarnish my reputation.
“I served the country till I retired as a Colonel, after which I joined politics to serve as the chairman of my local government area.
“I also served as the Commissioner for Security on three different occasions until I resigned during the past administration without any blemish.
“I will never trade my integrity with anything. No appointment is worth my integrity and so for that, I have relinquished my appointment as Community Guards chairman.
“I thank His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for finding me worthy of the onerous appointment.
“I assure His Excellency and entire people of the State that I am at their service and I will continue to contribute my quota to the progress and development of the State.”
