Dickson applauds Lions Club on nation building and service to humanity

Senator Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa State, has applauded Lions Club International District 404B4 Nigeria on their total commitment and effective service to humanity in areas of empowerment and capacity building.

Dickson gave the commendation at the Club’s fundraising dinner and public presentation of the 23rd President of Ajao Estate Lions Club, District 404B4 on Sunday in Lagos.

Dickson, who was the chairman of the occasion, was represented by Mr Victor lhekweazu (SAN). He congratulated the club on their remarkable achievements in service to humanity by supporting the less privileged.

 

According to him, “His excellency is proud to associate with them, and will continue to support them in all their projects as long as it impacts on communities, and lives of the less privileged.

PCC Lion Mrs Omolola Anobili, the guest speaker, applauded the club for making the world a place to be without asking for any form of return.

Anobili said that Lions Clubs strive every day to make Nigerians and the world as a whole as long as its within their reach and environs, happier via their numerous projects and activities.

She therefore appealed to the guests to donate generously to the Club to enable them to do more projects for humanity.

She added that the donations will be judiciously used for the purpose that it was meant for, adding that the Club members are known for integrity and accountability.

The 404B4 District Governor, Lion Samson Abodunrin x-rayed the purpose of the Club as a charity organisation that puts smiles on the faces of people via their numerous projects and activities targeted at the less privileged in the society.

Abodunrin said that such projects include feeding of the hungry, Diabetes Awareness and screening, pediatric cancer, vision, and the environment.

He added that others are empowerment, provision of amenities such as bore holes, giving glasses to both the youths and elderly ones after vision tests, just to mention a few.

He said that the government cannot do everything because they have a lot of things to do, but with the support of Lions club in contributing their quota, the world will be a better place for all to live.

 

He therefore called on all well-meaning Nigerians to imbibe and emulate what the club is doing by reaching out to the less privileged in their various communities.

He emphasised that the more well-meaning  Nigerians join the vanguard, the more people that will be reached out to and their lives alleviated.

Abodunrin said that the club was founded over 100 years ago by Lion Melvin Jones who was an insurance personnel  that has great concern for the less privileged in the society and lured other like minded people to his thoughts, which gave birth to Lions Clubs from Chicago in 1917, and spread to all nooks and crannies of the world as a charity organization with the membership of Nigeria dated back to 1964.

He said the Club still adheres strictly to its purpose by giving sympathy to those in distress, aid to the weak, and assistance to the needy.

The essence is also to promote principles of good government and good citizenship, creating and fostering a spirit of understanding amongst the people of the world and to encourage service minded people to serve their communities without personal financial gains/reward

In his remarks, Lion Samuel Adesanmi, the 23rd President of Ajao Estate, promised to adhere to the structured activities of Lions Clubs International in the areas of youth empowerment, vision protection, feeding the hungry, Pediatric cancer awareness, environmental protection, diabetes screening and awareness.

Adesanmi said he will also work with others to make sure they have a befitting club house to enhance their operations

He therefore sought people’s support both morally and financially to get the set tasks done.

Adesanmi, who took over from Lion Oluwatoyin Odoziaku as the President for 2022/2023 Lions Service year, was born on July 26 1959, and hails from Oshinkola Royal family in lle lfe, Osun State.

He is a chartered accountant and has worked in many reputable financial organisations, including FCMB Trustees, where he is currently the Managing Director.
