Akeredolu transmits power to Deputy Aiyedatiwa, proceeds on medical leave as his health worsens

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has at last handed over power to his deputy, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as proceeds on another medical leave abroad tomorrow following the deterioration of his health.
A statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, stated that Governor Akeredolu’s decision is driven by the urgent need to prioritize his deteriorating health and undergo a complete recovery before resuming his official duties.
The statement noted that Akeredolu has initiated another medical absence, starting from Wednesday, December 13, as his health condition has reportedly worsened. This comes as a follow-up to a previous medical treatment.
The statement further outlined that a formal letter detailing the aggravated health condition and a notice formally transferring power, in accordance with the Constitution, will be promptly transmitted to the House of Assembly.
The Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will assume the responsibilities of the Governor in an acting capacity during Akeredolu’s absence. This seamless transition reflects Governor Akeredolu’s commitment to ensuring the continuous and effective functioning of the state government, even in the face of health challenges.
“In light of the worsening health condition of Governor Akeredolu, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will assume the responsibilities of the Governor in an acting capacity. Governor Akeredolu expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support and affection of the people of Ondo State. He assures them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.”
“Governor Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a widely respected figure, has consistently practised the delegation of power to his deputy during his annual vacations. Notably, this practice was observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, during his previous vacations
“As Ondo State wishes its Governor a swift and full recovery, the focus remains on the capable leadership of Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa, ensuring the continued stability and progress of the state despite the challenging circumstances.”
