Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has felicitated the President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on the celebration of his 65th birthday.

Abiodun hailed Adesina as an economic visionary whose contributions have significantly influenced the landscape of Africa’s development.

In a statement he personally signed and issued in Abeokuta on Thursday, the Ogun governor noted the remarkable journey of Adesina since he took over the helm of the AfDB in 2015.

“Under his stewardship, the African Development Bank has transformed into a beacon of hope and progress for our continent,” he stated.

The governor emphasised that Adesina’s leadership has not only enhanced the bank’s reputation but has also fortified its role as a pivotal institution dedicated to the economic upliftment of African nations.

“Born on February 6, 1960, Adesina’s illustrious career in economics and development has been marked by his unwavering commitment to the cause of Africa’s growth.

His election as the President of the AfDB in 2015, followed by his re-election in 2020, underscores the confidence that member countries have in his vision and capabilities.

“Dr. Adesina embodies the essence of leadership, inspiring others to strive for excellence and fostering a unifying spirit among African countries,” he said.

The governor acknowledged Adesina’s role as a distinguished ambassador for Nigeria, stating, “His immense contributions toward the economic emancipation of our continent have not only elevated Nigeria’s standing on the global stage but have also served as an inspiration for many.”

As articulated by Adesina himself, “We must invest in our people, create jobs, and ensure that no one is left behind in our quest for sustainable development.”

This philosophy, Abiodun said, has been a guiding principle throughout his tenure, influencing policy decisions that resonate with the needs of the continent.

“As the African Development Bank continues to champion initiatives aimed at eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable development, I hold firmly that the future of our continent is brighter.

“I am confident that under Dr. Adesina’s guidance, the AfDB will continue to drive impactful changes that will benefit not only Nigeria but the entire African continent,” the governor added.
