Continental Hotels Group, a leading Nigerian hospitality company, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of gender equality in the workplace in line with the theme of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration, “Accelerated Action: For all women and girls rights, equality and empowerment.”.
The Director of Rooms, Lagos Continental Hotel, Cuthberga Onuoha, informed that by providing growth opportunities to its workforce, particularly women, the group has successfully empowered many female staff members to take on leadership roles.
The director who highlighted the group’s progress in achieving gender equality as part of the hotels’ alignment with International Women’s Day celebrations which will climax on Saturday, March 8 because International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 of every year.
According to her, the Group has given growth opportunities to every staff member regardless of gender, adding that this has made us a reference point for gender equality in the Nigerian hospitality industry.
“In Lagos Continental Hotel, for instance, the executive group and head of departments comprise a significant number of female staff members, with a ratio of 60-40 in favour of women. “This demonstrates our commitment to providing opportunities for females to excel in their careers,” Onuoha emphasized.
“As a hotel, we are setting a precedent for others to follow in promoting gender equality in the workplace,” she added.
The Group’s open policy and supportive work environment have created a conducive space for staff members, especially women, to thrive in their roles. The provision of nurseries for working mothers is a testament to the Group’s dedication to fostering a family-friendly work environment.
Meanwhile, the Group is rolling out drums to celebrate its female staff members on March 8th, in commemoration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
The Group is organising a full week of celebration for the women.
“We have different kinds of activities to mark the week-long celebration for them. We have health talk, entertainment, sports and parties. We are doing them this year too. Already, there are committees across the two hotels that are organising the celebrations,” the Rooms Division Director, Lagos Continental Hotel said.
