Stop obsessing over my bum, Tems slams critics

Grammy-winning singer, Tems, has firmly addressed body-shaming remarks following her performance at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, United States of America. After sharing clips from the event, she faced criticism on social media, with one user commenting, “Real one knows she just have big laps not actual ass.”

Responding on X, Tems expressed her frustration, tweeting, “Okay, seven years in. It’s time to pack it up. I never thought I’d need to say it, but you are all weird. ‘It’s small, it’s flat, it’s fat.’ Dog, it’s mine. ‘Show us your bumbum’ lol so me too I will turn and say ‘see’? Nah, show me yours first? See how that feels? It’s just a body. I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body; I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone. The more you don’t like my body, the better for me actually. But it’s enough now. Move on from my bum.”

Her response underscores her stance on body autonomy and challenges the culture of unsolicited opinions on women’s bodies. By confronting the criticism head-on, Tems continues to advocate for self-acceptance and respect for personal boundaries.

Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, also weighed in, defending her against the online negativity. He tweeted, “Said it before and I’ll say it again. Insulting me? I’m fine with but if you insult Temi, Stanley or Lekan? We will have a problem. ‘Till next time, bye for now.”

This isn’t the first time Tems has faced scrutiny over her appearance. In February 2023, following her first Grammy win for Best Melodic Rap Performance, her stage performance drew criticism for her dance moves and attire. Despite often choosing modest clothing to focus attention on her music, Tems has been subjected to varied commentary about her body.
