President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking the screening and confirmation of Dr Bernard Doro from Plateau State as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

The letter conveying the request was read on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

Akpabio subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action, directing it to report back as soon as practicable.

Doro’s nomination follows the elevation of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who previously held the position, before he emerged as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress in July.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier on Tuesday confirmed the nomination in a statement, noting that Doro’s selection was part of ongoing efforts to fill vacant ministerial slots in the Tinubu administration.

According to the statement, Doro, born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, brings over two decades of experience across clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

“He has degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA focusing on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice,” Onanuga said.

“He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience across urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospital settings.”

If confirmed by the Senate, he will be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at a forthcoming meeting.
