Chevron Nigeria celebrates excellence through Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competition

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and CNL, proudly participated in award ceremony of the 2025 Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competition held at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun. The event featured representatives of the Delta State Ministry of Education, the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), dignitaries from Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) and Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), teachers, students, and members of the press.

According to a statement by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Olusoga Oduselu, Jim Swartz, Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, who was represented at the event, highlighted the enduring partnership between the NNPCL/CNL Joint Venture, the Chemical Society of Nigeria, and the Delta State Government, emphasizing the competition’s role in promoting excellence in chemistry and supporting education in Delta State.

“We are delighted to witness the sustained commitment to the study of chemistry, as demonstrated by the outstanding performance of students in this year’s competition. Chevron, through the NNPCL/CNL JV, remains proud to be the sole sponsor of the Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competition in Delta State since 1992. Our investment in education is motivated by the remarkable achievements of past awardees, many of whom have excelled in science-related disciplines both locally and internationally,” he stated.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of plaques, certificates, and other benefits to excelling students. The coveted first prize was awarded to Omazuwa Enousakhala Samuel from St. Augustine College, Oghara, who distinguished himself among participants from across Delta State.

Chevron Nigeria Limited’s gesture and unwavering support for education was acknowledged and appreciated in several goodwill messages from attendees.

Chevron’s commitment to education aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the Nigerian National Policy on Education.
