IEF, OGDC announce agreement to strengthen collaboration

IEF and the OGDC have announced an agreement to strengthen collaboration to accelerate the energy transition through enhanced public-private sector dialogue.

The Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) and the International Energy Forum (IEF) Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen public–private collaboration and accelerate practical decarbonization across the global oil and gas sector.

The MoU will prioritize inclusive government–industry dialogue on carbon management and evolving market solutions, methane mitigation, energy efficiency, and other scalable pathways, leveraging the complementary strengths of IEF’s global energy diplomacy and OGDC’s industry-led action.

The agreement establishes a structured way of working to deepen policy dialogue, combine convening power, and co-develop research, publications, and capacity-building initiatives, supporting just, orderly and affordable energy transitions across both OECD and non-OECD economies.

Mr. Jassim Alshirawi, Secretary General of the IEF, said: “This partnership reflects the IEF’s commitment to fostering informed dialogue between governments and industry in support of pragmatic, evidence-based climate action. Collaboration with OGDC will help strengthen global engagement and support the translation of ambition into implementable solutions for secure, affordable, and sustainable energy systems.”

Mr. Bjørn Otto Sverdrup, Chair of the OGDC Secretariat, said: “Extending cooperation is essential to deliver real-world emissions reductions. Working closely with the IEF brings together policy insight and industry action, helping to accelerate solutions on methane and efficiency that can make a measurable difference and help us achieve Charter ambitions.”

The agreement takes effect upon signature and runs through till the end of 2028, reinforcing a shared commitment to transparency, voluntary collaboration, and progress at scale.
