The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has waded into the investigation of a viral video showing female students stripping and harassing a peer at a school reportedly located in Benue State.
Responding to the development via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the agency announced that it has mandated its Benue State Command to take swift action.
“This is indeed a sad development. The case has been forwarded to our Benue State Command, which has been directed to immediately liaise with the relevant agencies in the state to ensure swift and appropriate action on the matter,” NAPTIP wrote.
The agency’s intervention follows widespread public outcry after the footage, which shows a group of at least five girls in school uniforms humiliating a fellow schoolgirl, went viral earlier on Monday.
The victim was seen struggling to cover herself while her attackers laughed and recorded the act.
