TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Nigeria, highlighting 70 years as a downstream operator and 67 years as an upstream operator in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the company at the 2026 Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria, NAEC, Annual Energy Conference in Lagos themed “Access to Assets: Empowering Players and Driving Growth,” Mr. Senan Murray, the Manager Communication Projects at TotalEnergies in Nigeria, said engagements between industry and the media are essential for deepening public understanding of Nigeria’s complex energy sector.

The conference, brought together regulators, International Oil Companies, IOCs, indigenous operators and power sector players to examine the barriers to asset acquisition, divestment trends, and the operational shifts reshaping Nigeria’s oil, gas and power sectors.

Murray disclosed that Total Energies has taken two major Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) in just over a year, signaling renewed investor confidence.

“In June 2024 we took FID with NNPC and our partners to develop Ubeta, and only last month we took another FID to develop the IMA gas project,” he announced.

Describing the current climate as encouraging, he noted: “These are exciting times, the environment is now very amenable to business, and we will see even more in the coming months and years.”

On sustainability, Senan stressed TotalEnergies’ strategy of producing more energy with fewer emissions.

“Both FIDs are with zero routine flaring. We are taking advantage of the government’s incentives for non-associated gas. We also partnered with NNPC to improve methane monitoring across our sites using our AUSEA proprietary technology. If you monitor methane emissions, you can control it,” he said.

He thanked NAEC for creating and sustaining the platform: “On behalf of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, we thank you for the opportunity to be part of this year’s conference. You’ve done this very faithfully over the past decades and we are delighted to partner with you to make sure the story of Nigeria’s energy sector is told properly.”

TotalEnergies’ presence at the 2026 NAEC Conference underscored its evolving portfolio strategy in Nigeria and its role in shaping discussions around responsible asset transition and indigenous capacity.
