Warri refinery to begin full operation December 2023

The Acting Managing Director, Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, Mr. Desmond Inyamah, has said the full operation of the refinery would commence in December 2023.

He said this when members of the House Of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on the State of the Nation’s Refineries visited to inspect the ongoing turn around maintenance of the refinery in Ekpan, Delta State.

Briefing the Ad Hoc Committee members on the level of ongoing work, he said the last time maintenance work was done at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company was in 2004 and 2005.

The Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on state of Nation’s refineries, Honourable Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson expressed concern over the inabilities of the four refineries in the country to refine the country’s crude oil.

He noted that the committee had gone to inspect the state of work at the Port Harcourt refineries.

The Committee Chairman said the purpose of the oversight was to have first hand knowledge of the state of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of work going on at the site.

Johnson said when fully functional, the refineries will address among things the issues of crude oil importation and scarcity of refined products to meet local consumption and even export to other countries.

He was delighted with the various ongoing maintenance at the different refineries in the country.

Hon. Ganiyu Johnson also urged the contractor handling the project to respect the terms and conditions of the contract and deliver on projected time.
