Catholic NGO raises fund to support less privileged persons

By Meletus EZE

An Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, on Sunday organised a fundraising to support the poor and less privileged persons in the society.

Speaking at the event, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic Archbishop of Jos, said the fund would be channelled into charity and social works.

According to him, poverty is on the increase in the society, hence the need for the church to raise fund to provide succour for the poor.

Kaigama, who talked about the merits of almsgiving and the need to support the poor in the society, advised Christians to regularly engage in works of mercy.

“It is good to pray but it is also good to do the act or works of mercy. It is good to engage in social works.

“ It is good to support the poor in the society.

“Therefore, we need to help the poor because government alone cannot cater for their needs and this is why we are raising fund today,’’ he said.

Kaigama said that both Christians and non-Christians would benefit from the fund raised.

TBI Africa said the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fundraising coincided with the launch of the 2019 Lenten campaign of the archdiocese.
