Police urge parents to take wards security seriously in 2020

The Commissioner of Police Enugu State Command, Mr Ahmed Abdurrahman, has urged parents to take the security of their children seriously in the New Year to forestall rising case of child stealing and trafficking.

Abdurrahman said this in Enugu on Thursday while speaking with newsmen on rising case of child stealing and trafficking in the state.
He decried recent move by criminal elements to target innocent and unsuspecting children especially in schools.
According to him, this is the time for parents to do more in terms of securing their wards and ensuring they take full charge of their security personally.
“We have met and warned school proprietors and authorities that no person other than the person registered to take a child comes to take him or her in school.
“And, among those registered, if there is any reason why they will not come or delegate their duty, there must be telephone conversation to that effect.
“The telephone conversation will ensure that the new person coming is a true representative of the parents of the child,’’ he said.
The commissioner said that the command would be deploying its intelligence officers to gather needed information on child traffickers in the state and bring them to book.
He also called on school proprietors and authorities to fortify their security mechanism and ensure well fencing of their school premises as well as deploying single entrance and exit gate.
The command had been investigating some cases of child trafficking, stealing, labour and torture recently.
