Palm Sunday: Archbishop calls for prayers against COVID-19 in Nigeria

The Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocese, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, on Sunday, called on Nigerians to pray for God’s intervention on the Coronavirus pandemic currently ravaging the world.

Ibezim made the call during his sermon to mark this year’s Palm Sunday at Our Savior’s Anglican Church, Emmaus House, Awka.

The cleric, who shed tears over the hardship currently being experienced by Nigerians due to the policies put in place by health professionals and governments to contain the spread of the virus, said it was high time Christians raised their voices to God for help.

Ibezim conducted the service in company with few priests, members of his family and the church staff.

The sermon was transmitted through the electronic and social media.

This was in conformity with the Anambra government’s guidelines on social distancing, hand washing and use of hand sanitisers, as part of the measures to check the spread of COVID-19.

Ibezim, who lamented that Nigeria and other parts of the world were bleeding from the pains of Coronavirus, however, assured that God would save mankind from the pandemic.

“God will heal our infirmities; He will restore our health, because He is compassionate.

“Let us use the celebration of the triumphant entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem to call on Him to heal us and save us from the Coronavirus pandemic, since all viruses are subject to His command.

“Hosanna means please save us. Only God has the power to save mankind from the plague. I pray the Almighty to hear the prayers of His servants and save mankind from this deadly virus.
