Ministry to spend 70% budget on East-West Road

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Babayo Ado, has disclosed that the Federal Government is working to ensure the completion of the East-West Road.

He said the ministry would spend 70 per cent of its 2021 budget towards the completion of the project.

According to a statement on Sunday by the ministry’s Director of Press, Deworitshe Patricia, the permanent secretary spoke during his inspection of the Section 4, Eket Bypass Dual Carriage Way and Onne/Eket-Oron Road of the East-West Road in Akwa Ibom State on Friday.

The statement was titled ‘FG to invest 70 per cent of MNDA’s 2021 budget for the completion of the East-West Road project’.

Ado was quoted as saying that he was satisfied that the contractors were working in line with the directives of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to ensure that the project was completed before the first quarter of 2022.

He said, “For the past two days, the Minister of State, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Omotayo Alasoadura, and I have been on the East-West Road for inspection.

“That Section 1 which covers Warri in Delta State to Kaima in Bayelsa has already been completed last year.”

A representative of the ministry, Okoro Iheomamere, added that the Phase I of the Eket Bridge was already completed.
