Lagos orders suspension of construction in Shapatta

The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning against what it described as uncoordinated physical developments along the alignments of the ongoing Regional Road, particularly Shapatta, near the Victoria Garden City, where it ordered immediate suspension of developments.

A statement by the state government quoted the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, as saying this during a routine monitoring visit.

As a result, all unapproved developments have been given 14 days to regularise with the ministry.

He said the inordinate ambition of developers was capable of resulting in dilapidation from the outset, adding that they were taking undue advantage of the Regional Road project by building indiscriminately along the axis.

According to Salako, the Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law of 2019 is very much in force, insisting no illegal building construction will be allowed in the state.

The commissioner urged prompt compliance with the directive, warning that the government would henceforth not hesitate to remove any non-complying developments.
