Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva and other energy experts will converge in Abuja to decide the nation’s energy outlook.
Coming amidst energy transition development and global conference on ways to mitigate climate change, industry stakeholders are expected to provide leeway for the country on the World Energy Day Conference.
A member of the planning committee, Olayemi John-Mensah, said in a release that the energy stakeholders would provide facts and figures on why switching to gas is Nigeria’s best move towards energy transition.
The World Energy Day Conference organised by the National Chamber Policy Centre and CabTree and scheduled for next Thursday at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), according to John-Mensah, would herald the position of Nigeria on energy transition.
Key industry leaders attending the event include the GED Gas and Power of the NNPC, the Nigerian Gas Association, Shell Gas, Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria, Nigeria Gas Marketing Company, Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria, top officials of the new NNPC Limited, corporate Chiefs from multinational oil corporations and energy experts from across Africa.
According to the organisers, the conference is to have four panel sessions covering gas to power solutions, gas within the context of energy transition, the question of infrastructure and constraints and the impact of the new Petroleum Industry Act on the gas sector.
A director at ACCI Policy Centre Olawale Rasheed said: “The hint we are getting is the trend towards gas as fuel of choice. Public and private sector actors will brainstorm on this vital subject. We are set to host this high-profile event in an endeavour that is going to be a yearly gathering of who is who in the energy sector.”
Commenting on the goals of the conference, CEO of CabTree, Olabode Sowunmi III, said the gathering would intellectually analyse the country’s trajectory in the journey of energy transition, adding “the primary goal of the event is to ensure deeper review of policy efforts towards energy transition.”
