The 1988 set of Government College Lagos Old Boys Association (GCLOBA) on Friday donated 100 pieces of furniture and exercise books, worth N4.2 million to their Alma mater.

The old boys also gave N10,000 each to three best students in science, Art and commercial subjects.

Mr Mayorkun Oresanya, Coordinator of GCLOBA, 1988 set, said the gesture was to support the school and give back to their alma mater 30 years after they left the school.

“We look at things that are lacking in the school; there are no furniture for the students so we decided to give the school 100 sets of furniture and 2000 copies of exercise books.
“We gave the furniture to the student that are about to write their WAEC because we discover they did not have enough furniture.

“We are also preparing scholarship award for a student who is suffering dyslexia.
“Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding).
“It is also called reading disability which affects areas of the brain that process language.

Receiving the donation, Mrs Teru Omolade, the principal of the college, commended the old boys for their kind gesture and support towards improving the standard of the school.

Teru said the old boys of the college had been looking back and lending a helping hand whenever the need arose.
“I am really excited for this kind gesture and I am extremely happy that you looked back to the school after 30 years.

“Some years back, when our students wanted to write their WAEC there was no chair and some sets like yours provided it for us.

“Even when inspectors came to our school from Alausa, they always ask us what magic are we doing but it is not magic, it is the work of communication with our old boys association,“ she said.
The principal said that through the support from the old boys association, the government was able to admit about 400 boys into the school this session.
Teru said the schools had been adjudged the best disciplined school and also scored 81 per cent in WAEC in 2017.
“When we were short of teachers, it was the old boys association of some sets that came up and provided teachers for us,” she added.
