A private university, Samuel Adegboyega University, Ogwa, Edo State, says it is set to establish an agro-solar project that will generate 300 kilowatts to boost internally generated revenue.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ben Aigbokhan, made this known at a news briefing ahead of the institution’s 4th convocation ceremony on Saturday.
Aigbokhan said that the university would undertake the project in partnership with UK-based Easy Watts Ltd and Sky2Net Ltd, a renewable energy company based in Israel.
According to the vice chancellor, the power project will help boost the internally generated revenue of the institution as well as reduce dependency on public power supply.
“Currently, we rely solely on school fees and also fees returns on small investment like oil palm seedlings for our IGR.
“But will hope to expand on our investment on agricultural sector to further boost our revenue,” Aigbokhan said.
He said that 10 out of the 88 graduating students had First Class.
He said that three distinguished Nigerians would be conferred with honorary degrees for their contributions to the development of the university.
They included, Dr Mathew Okpebholo of Ray Royal Construction Company and Pastor E. Igwe, President of the Apostolic Church Nigeria, owners of the Samuel Adegboyega University.
The vice-chancellor said that the university had expelled six students over drug abuse in keeping with its high academic and moral standards
